From the recording Tin Can World
Lyrics
I woke up this morning
And I looked around
I shook my head a lot
And I just frowned
I’m so sick and tired
Of feeling down
I think the time has come
To leave this town
I escaped for the summer
Well I took my chances in the warm night air
I escaped for the summer
My get-away car was waiting there
I escaped for the summer
Well I found the keys to my prison cell
Though everyone was new, I swore I’d seen them before we met
Took me for a drink in Malibu and we had all the fun that I could get
Saw my favourite band on a stage and they called me up to sing a duet
Met a girl called Heidi, and we spent the week in her mountain getaway
We did so many things I could talk about, and plenty more I couldn’t say
I don’t speak their language
But they speak mine
It’s full of zeros
It’ll do just fine
I got these crazy ideas
Thought it was just me
But now I’ve finally found
My own community
I escaped for the summer
I took my chances in the warm night air
I escaped for the summer
While my get-away car was waiting there
I escaped for the summer
The guards were sleeping so they couldn’t tell
Fought off the zombie hordes, they were 16,000 strong, or more
When my country called, I commandeered a tank, and won the war
Spent half the fortune I made on a yacht and gave the rest, to the poor
Woke up smiling with some friends in a place they call the Pixel Bay
Did so many things we could talk about and plenty more we couldn’t say
I don’t believe it
But it’s not a dream
Floating gently
Down the stream
I escaped for the summer
And I can keep on going back again
I escaped for the summer
And it doesn’t even matter where or when
I escaped for the summer
Got a call to action and I was there
I escaped for the summer
And I didn’t even have to leave my chair
